SUMMARY
The AI & Manufacturing Systems Development Lead is a hands-on technical leader who develops and delivers improvements across manufacturing orders, production planning, purchasing, warehouse operations, and related data flows. The role combines manufacturing systems expertise with practical software development and AI-driven development: personally building and testing prototypes, designing integrations, and working with development teams to turn validated solutions into secure, reliable production systems. In partnership with business owners, the Lead defines the problem, agrees success measures, and follows delivery through to adoption and measurable business results.
PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES
- Define operational problems, priorities, scope, and success criteria with business owners across manufacturing, planning, purchasing, and warehousing.
- Build and test prototypes using AI-assisted tools to validate feasibility and identify process and data constraints.
- Develop reliable APIs, integrations, and data flows with clear boundaries, accurate master data, validation, and error handling.
- Lead teams in delivering production-ready solutions with maintainable code, automated tests, documentation, and support.
- Use AI across analysis, coding, testing, and documentation; verify outputs and own technical decisions.
- Protect business data through access controls, secure integrations, approved AI tools, and controlled data sharing.
- Coordinate business acceptance, release, and stabilization; resolve issues hands-on in manufacturing operations.
- Agree baseline and target measures, verify results after release, and prioritize improvements.
KEY COMPETENCIES
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and system dependencies across orders, planning, purchasing, inventory, warehousing, and master data.
- Hands-on coding, code review, debugging, and testing skills to turn prototypes into maintainable solutions beyond demonstrations.
- Practical integration and data design skills covering APIs, databases, validation, system boundaries, failure handling, and secure access.
- Ability to lead cross-team initiatives, challenge incomplete requirements, explain trade-offs, and agree decisions and acceptance with business owners.
- Practical AI-assisted development skills, with sound judgment on generated code, accuracy, security, privacy, and human review.
- Ownership of delivery and measurable outcomes, with clear communication across business and technical teams.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Practical experience developing manufacturing or enterprise systems, with strong software engineering skills.
- Proven delivery of solutions from business need and prototype to testing, integration, production, and operational use.
- Experience with AI development tools and system integration. Ability to understand complex manufacturing processes and learn new technologies; specific ERP experience is not required.
