Senior Backend Engineer

We are building a new team for a new digital bank from scratch! The new backend team will build, implement, and continuously improve a modern banking platform.

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will design and build the microservices that power the bank, integrate with vendor and third-party systems, and define the API contracts that bring everything together. You will work closely with architects, product managers, and other engineers to make smart, long-term technical decisions.

Every day, you’ll be #closer and:

• Design and build microservices in Java 21+ and Spring Boot;
• Build the in-house BFF layer that wraps our banking core and exposes clean domain APIs to mobile and web clients;
• Define and own API contracts (REST and gRPC);
• Integrate with the banking core and third-party systems;
• Work with event-driven tools for communication between services;
• Run and own your services in production — Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, GitOps-based deployments, observability with OpenTelemetry;
• Model and manage data in PostgreSQL;
• Write the automated tests that let us release often and safely;
• Collaborate with architects on service design and technical direction — you'll have real influence on how the platform is built.

To be #closer, you’ll need:

• Solid backend development experience with Java 21+ and Spring Boot;
• Strong experience designing and building microservices;
• Hands-on experience with REST and gRPC API design;
• Solid knowledge of Kafka or Azure Event Hubs;
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and PostgreSQL;
• Cloud-native experience (Azure is a plus);
• A proven track record of integrating with external systems;
• A habit of covering your work with automated tests;
• Confidence in making technical decisions and defining API contracts.

Nice to have:

• Experience in fintech, banking, or another regulated industry;
• Experience working in greenfield environments;
• Experience wrapping or integrating a banking core platform;
• Familiarity with DORA, PCI DSS, or NIS2.
